Scientist discovers new species on Flickr

What's the most interesting thing you've seen on Flickr? We bet it's not as impressive as Shaun Winterton … he discovered a new insect species on there.

The entomologist had been looking at photos of a green lacewing when he spotted patterns on the wings he'd never seen before. On closer inspection he realised he was looking at a new species of insect.

Winterton reportedly then contacted the photographer who informed him the shot had been taken in the jungles of Malaysia and visited the spot.

He then managed to capture one of the creatures the specimen has been confirmed as a new species by entomologists in London.
