Robots to take over Canon camera production

You may or may not know that your DSLR was probably hand-built to some degree. But that could be about to change after Canon reportedly announced the shift to fully automated camera production.

A spokesperson for the Japanese firm was recently quoted as saying: ""The move toward machine-only production will likely be completed in the next few years, perhaps as soon as 2015."

The move would make Canon the first of the large camera manufacturers to become fully automated.

However, it's claimed that the move won't mean a loss of jobs. Another spokesperson said: "When machines become more sophisticated, human beings can be transferred to do new kinds of work."
