Kodak Stops Making Cameras

Following on from the announcement that Kodak has filed for bankruptcy protection -- it's now been revealed that production of digital cameras will cease in the first half of 2012.

Rather than produce their own cameras the organisation will instead expand its current brand licensing program, and seek licensees for cameras

"For some time, Kodak’s strategy has been to improve margins in the capture device business by narrowing our participation in terms of product portfolio, geographies and retail outlets," said Pradeep Jotwani, Kodak Chief Marketing Officer.

But don't worry if you've recently bought a Kodak camera, the firm will continue to honor all related product warranties, and provide technical support and service for its cameras, pocket video cameras and digital picture frames.

It's sad that such an old company has had to fold, I heard they actually invented one of the first digital cameras but decided that it wouldn't catch on, doh!
