Twitter to announce photo sharing today

According to Techcrunch, the Guardian and multiple other sources, Twitter will be introducing a photo sharing service via twimg.com that was registered in July 2010. Twitter's big cheese Dick Costolo will be speaking about the new service at the D9 conference today and may refer to the downed plane in the Hudson river that was famously Twitpic (ed) by Janis Krums - http://twitpic.com/135xa

This will be to compete against existing services such as Twitpic, Yfrog, and Instagram and drive more revenue to the business as predicted by eMarketer on Mashable earlier in the year. Twitter is likely to ramp up its aqusitions to help the business grow more rapidly (like its recent £25m purchase of Tweetdeck last week).
