Face.com shares its technology with developers
Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 11:56AM Face.com is known for its clever Facebook applications PhotoTagger and Photo Finder. It has recognised more than 52 million faces on Facebook and now its sharing this technology with webmasters and developers - enabling them use of an HTML widget and the API.
So what does this mean for your average user? Well it creates opportunities for really interesting photo sharing websites and photo technology that people can use without having to be too tech savvy. A few examples of developers using it already are Celeb-Finder, Tagger Widget and PosterYourself. If you share your photos online, this type of technology will simplify organising your images.
Apple has already used this technology in its iPhoto and Aperture applications and this latest move by Face.com will encourage development of exciting new ways to manage and manipulate your photos online. Just think, you'll be able to exclude all the photos of that cousin that you've never really liked.
